Gas supply: Safe gas pipes thanks to polyethylene

Natural gas is still an important source of energy: Around 20 million homes and 1.8 million companies in Germany use gas for heating or in the production process (source: Zukunft Gas e. V.). Local authorities, gas suppliers and municipal utilities must guarantee the gas supply in Germany - and meet high safety standards in the process. Robust gas pipes are crucial here, as are the appropiate pipe connection technology and fittings for gas pipes. These must be durable, corrosion-resistant and safe. Reliable materials such as polyethylene ensure that gas pipes in Germany and Europe function safely.

We therefore use polyethylene (PE) in the manufacture of our connection technology and thus produce durable and safe products to the highest quality standards.

Gas supply lines and the energy transition

The existing gas infrastructure can be used profitably as part of the energy transition: The focus here is on climate-neutral, gaseous energy sources that could flow through the existing gas pipelines in the future. The longevity and robustness of the gas pipelines is also an important factor in the sustainable and safe use of the existing infrastructure. In Germany alone, there are 500,000 km of gas pipelines with countless connections and junctions. The highest quality standards are essential here to ensure safety.

Polyethylene: corrosion-resistant material for gas pipes

Why do we use polyethylene? This high-quality plastic has proven its worth in gas pipes since the 1970s and has been continuously developed since then. Today, PE100 is one of the world's leading materials - and impresses with its flexibility and safety. This is because PE is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, flexible, robust and can even withstand extreme weather, undercutting and earthquakes. In addition, it can be pulled into gas pipes without trenches and can be easily integrated into existing systems - even for H2 admixtures.

Polyethylene: long service life ensures sustainability

The long service life of PE ensures the sustainability of gas pipes. The expected service life of polyethylene is around 100 years - which is a major advantage over other materials, especially in trenchless installation technology. Hydrogen suitability has already been confirmed. Finally, our sophisticated, homogeneous connection technology ensures that the supply systems are permanently leak-proof - digitally documented and traceable at all times.

The advantages of polyethylene in gas supply

  • Sustainable: expected service life of 100 years
  • Flexible: Trenchless installation and integration into existing systems
  • Corrosion-proof: withstands extreme weather, undercutting and earthquakes
  • Leakproof: durable thanks to homogeneous connection technology
  • Robust: also suitable for H2 admixtures
